Canadian Spoofs Arnold Schwarzenegger; The Arnold Responds



Digital marketers need to believe in the power of social media, and seeing the positive developments it can have is the best way for this belief to resonate.

While it’s important to look to other businesses (including non-competitors), it’s healthy and beneficial to embrace lessons from every corner of the digital world.

If you were paying attention last week, you may have seen a video of a Canadian comedian, David Brent, doing a spot-on impersonation of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

This video took off and reached the millions in views. Needless to say, it generated a lot of conversation.

What can digital marketers learn from this?

Brent leveraged his social media audience, which attracted views and shares, and, in turn, compelled Schwarzenegger to get involved.

It was a savvy piece of digital legwork by Brent. Another thing to note is  the quality of the content did matter. He offered something fun and interesting to people within his network, and the world just happened to pick up on it as well.

Strategy plus effort should usually equal strong results in social media.

Simplicity is always something to keep in mind. Users seem to enjoy something that is light and surprising.

Most of all, you have to invest the time to make it work.
