Spain Wins Euro 2012 & Twitter

A few weeks ago I pulled up some social media statistics around the eight teams entering the Euro Cup’s quarter final matches. Well, now the Euro Cup has ended and the world saw Spain walk away as the champion. But Spain didn’t just dominate in the games they played, they also dominated on Twitter.

This week I was going to take a look at the chatter around the Euro Cup, but our friends over at The Score, a leading sports channel and site in Canada, already used our MAP software to analyze the tournament. They also made an amazing infographic about their findings.

In the infographic they show that Spain, obviously, had the most mentions. It also shows that the very famous Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal was the most talked about player throughout the tournament. Most surprisingly, they show that the most retweeted tweet with the #Euro2012 hashtag was from Lebron James. All this was found through the 11,900,000 tweets about the Euro Cup. Check out all the stats below:

Check out The Score’s full write up on the Euro Cup and Twitter, including a few other interesting stats. They also post interesting social sports stats all the time on Facebook or on Twitter.
