Facebook Delivers with Timeline Movie Maker

Let’s forget about the IPO, NASDAQ and the sagging stock price for a few minutes.

Fact: Facebook continues to innovate and evolve in ways that elevate it above all competitors.

Facebook recently purchased the wildly popular Instagram for a cool $1-billion, bringing mobile photo sharing to its already impressive repertoire.

Earlier this year, Facebook upped the ante once again. Users and brands can turn their Facebook Timeline (another feat of social media innovation) into a one minute movie.

Developed by Definition 6 (in collaboration with Facebook), the Timeline Movie Maker lets users turn photos, videos and even status updates into a fun little movie. This adds an entirely new angle to the Facebook sharing model.

And what a model it was even before this new product launch.

Made available several months back for users and recently for brands, Timeline Movie Maker didn’t take off initially. This was most likely due to the initial resistance most had towards the Timeline layout in general.

Now that people have settled in and embraced the change, Timeline Movie Maker is poised to take off. Making the videos only able to be shared on Facebook is probably a misstep, one that I think will change in the near future.

It’s good to see what Facebook did as it rolled towards its IPO. Now, let’s hope it keeps the entrepreneurial spirit alive amidst all the investor chaos.
